Dimly is a macOS application developed and operated by Louis, an independent developer based in France. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use the Dimly website (dimly.io) and the Dimly application.
By using Dimly, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Dimly.
2. Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to deliver and manage your Dimly license:
- Email address — provided at purchase to deliver your license key
- License keys — unique keys generated and stored for your account
- Transaction identifiers — Paddle transaction IDs linked to your purchase
We do not collect browsing behavior, IP addresses, or any data from the Dimly macOS app beyond what is listed above.
3. How We Use Your Data
- License delivery — sending your license key to your email after purchase
- License verification — validating your license key upon activation in the app
- Transactional emails — purchase confirmations and license-related communications
- Customer support — responding to your requests regarding your license
We never use your data for marketing, advertising, or profiling purposes.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your data on the following legal bases:
- Contract performance — processing your email and license data is necessary to deliver the product you purchased
- Legitimate interest — retaining license records to prevent abuse and provide customer support
- Legal obligation — retaining transaction records as required by French tax law
5. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following third-party services, strictly as needed to operate Dimly:

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties.
6. Data Retention
- License data — retained for the duration of your license validity plus 2 years for support purposes
- Transaction records — retained for up to 10 years as required by French tax law (Code général des impôts)
- Email address — retained as long as your license is active, then deleted within 2 years unless required for legal obligations
7. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA):
- Resend operates in the United States and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF)
- Paddle operates in the United Kingdom and European Union with appropriate safeguards in place
All transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent mechanisms approved by the European Commission.
8. Your Rights
Under GDPR and applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of your personal data
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Restriction — limit how we process your data
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest

9. Cookies & Analytics
The Dimly website uses PostHog for anonymous website analytics to understand how visitors interact with the site and improve the user experience.
- Data collected — anonymous page views, button clicks, and session duration. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.
- Cookies — PostHog uses a first-party cookie to distinguish unique visitors. No third-party tracking cookies are used.

The Dimly macOS application does not use any analytics, tracking, or data collection. It works entirely offline.
10. Children's Privacy
Dimly is not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at support@dimly.io and we will delete it promptly.
