Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 6, 2026

1. Introduction

Dimly is a macOS application developed and operated by Louis, an independent developer based in France. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use the Dimly website (dimly.io) and the Dimly application.

By using Dimly, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Dimly.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to deliver and manage your Dimly license:

  • Email address — provided at purchase to deliver your license key
  • Device identifiers — a hardware fingerprint generated during activation to enforce device limits
  • License keys — unique keys generated and stored for your account
  • Transaction identifiers — Paddle transaction IDs linked to your purchase

We do not collect analytics data, browsing behavior, IP addresses, or any data beyond what is listed above.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • License delivery — sending your license key to your email after purchase
  • Device activation — verifying and managing device activations (up to 2 per license)
  • Transactional emails — purchase confirmations and license-related communications
  • Customer support — responding to your requests regarding your license

We never use your data for marketing, advertising, or profiling purposes.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance — processing your email and license data is necessary to deliver the product you purchased
  • Legitimate interest — device fingerprinting is necessary to enforce the 2-device license limit and prevent abuse
  • Legal obligation — retaining transaction records as required by French tax law

5. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party services, strictly as needed to operate Dimly:

  • Paddle — our Merchant of Record, handling all payment processing, invoicing, and tax compliance. Paddle receives your email and payment information during checkout. Paddle Privacy Policy
  • Resend — our email delivery service, used to send your license key and transactional emails from noreply@dimly.io. Resend processes your email address solely for delivery purposes. Resend Privacy Policy

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties.

6. Data Retention

  • License and device data — retained for the duration of your license validity plus 2 years for support purposes
  • Transaction records — retained for up to 10 years as required by French tax law (Code général des impôts)
  • Email address — retained as long as your license is active, then deleted within 2 years unless required for legal obligations

7. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA):

  • Resend operates in the United States and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF)
  • Paddle operates in the United Kingdom and European Union with appropriate safeguards in place

All transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent mechanisms approved by the European Commission.

8. Your Rights

Under GDPR and applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Restriction — limit how we process your data
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@dimly.io. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL — cnil.fr) or your local supervisory authority.

9. Cookies

The Dimly website does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any analytics tools. No data is collected through your browser beyond what is described in this policy.

10. Children's Privacy

Dimly is not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at support@dimly.io and we will delete it promptly.
